Big Easy Blog Tour

Hello Everyone,

This is my week to appear on the Big Easy Blog Tour. This is a tour of blogs from participating authors. We talk about our writing process in the hope of helping other aspiring writers with our method or experience.

The one who talked me into participating is VJ Schultz. Thanks for the invite VJ =)

VJ Schultz wanted to write books ever since she could read them by herself. Her latest book is a collection of romance short stories, UNDERCOVER LOVE & OTHER TALES. She enjoys writing in multiple genres including mystery, romance, and fantasy. She and her husband live in Missouri with three spoiled inside cats, one less-spoiled outside cat, and one happy parakeet. When she isn’t writing or teaching writing, she takes photos, reads, and does Tai Chi.  A member of Sisters in Crime, VJ is also a founding member of Sleuths’ Ink, a mystery and suspense writing group.

Now I was supposed to have three more authors to send you onto for next week, but alas no one volunteered or gave in to my constant harassment, so this branch could end with me OR you could hop over to the other author’s blogs that VJ invited. That would be my suggestion. She snagged a couple of great authors to follow her up…besides me, of course 😉

On With The Questions!

1.) What Am I Working On?

As some of you may know, I have 2 full length urban fantasy books out, City of the Gods: The Descendant and City of the Gods: The Betrayal. I’m currently working to promote the hell out of these books. I’m about halfway through writing the final book for the City of the Gods trilogy. I’m also working on my 1st kids book. It’s with the illustrator now. I’m hoping to have it out later this year. I also work on several short stories at once. My short stories are mostly romance. The two I have out right now are An Author’s Assistant and Lillian’s Christmas Surprise. Both short romances are priced at 99 cents…you know…just in case you want to check out my writing style…oh, and here is one of the covers…you know, just in case you were curious…

2.) How Does My Work Differ From Others Of Its Genre?

I wanted to write a paranormal romance because I LOVE reading that genre, but there are sooooooo many out there. I wanted to write something different as well, that’s when the idea for City of the Gods popped into my head. There are no vampires or werewolves in my books. There is an angel…and a witch…and a warlock…and there are immortals, but you will have to read the book to find out how they became immortal. There is some actual history in my story as well. It’s based on a real city in Mexico and the mystery surrounding its collapse. There is a dash of romance in my books, but it’s secondary to the plot. No one undresses to their birthday suit and gets busy with the hot, equally naked male in a pyramid…yep, I just lost about half my readers right there. Sorry =(

3.) Why Do I Write What I Do?

Because I love it…because it’s fun! I get to make up all sorts of outlandish scenarios for my characters to try to deal with and survive, ones that real people would turn and run from, screaming at the top of their lungs, ‘KEEP HER AWAY FROM ME!!!! SHE’S CRAZY!!!!’ Never mind that I’m holding an axe (a fake one, of course…though if they are running they probably don’t know that…hmm), running after them, shouting, ‘Aw, come on! Just let me see if this weapon trick could really work! I promise it won’t hurt…much!’ Good thing I have a hubby who likes to help me act out the fight scenes or I’d be sitting in jail right now, not typing this trying to help aspiring writers everywhere.

4.) How Does My Writing Process Work?

It starts with me dragging my a$$ out of bed every morning at 6 am to get ready for my day job. As I shower, put my makeup on, do my hair, & get the kids ready for the day I daydream about how nice it would be to be a rich and famous best selling author, so I could stay at home in my pj’s all day and just write…skip to about 3 in the afternoon when all my work at my day job is accomplished and I can finally focus on my writing. I reread what I wrote the day before, change things if they need to be changed, and start writing. Sometimes I’m lucky and remember my ideas from just before I fell asleep the night before, other times…I’m not. Sometimes I take notes and then make sure to lose them so I have absolutely no recollection of what I was planning on writing. I like to challenge myself like that. And sometimes it works to my advantage, other times…not so much. I’m a plotter and pantser, both work for me. I try to get at least an hour of writing in everyday. In that hour, I can write anywhere from 1 to 1,000 words.

So, in summation, this is what you should have learned from this post…

#1. Write, then rewrite the book. #2. Edit, edit, edit (For the love of all that is holy, please hire someone to do it for you and take their advice!) #3. Write your query & synopsis (This is the worst part for many authors) #4. Submit to agents and publishing houses. #5. Get never ending form rejection letters from agents and publishing houses. (Unless you’re a lucky bastard who gets an agent on the 1st go round)(Nope, not jealous…envious, maybe…) #6. KEEP WRITING!!! #7. Repeat steps 1-6 until you snag the agent/publishing house of your dreams or decide to self publish. #8. Promote the shiznit out of your new release! Then start this process all over again. Did you get all that from this post. Of course you did.

Who comes after me for the Big Easy Blog Tour? No one, but here are a couple of posts not to miss…

Tierney James at

Tierney has been in education for over thirty years. She currently teaches World Geography for a nearby college. Besides serving as a Solar System Ambassador for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab and attending Space Camp for Educators, Tierney has traveled across the world. From the Great Wall of China to floating the Okavango Delta of Botswana, Africa, she ties her unique experiences into other writing projects such as the action thriller novel, An Unlikely Hero. Living on a Native American reservation and in a mining town for many years, fuels the kind of characters she never tires of creating. By taking readers into the depths of the earth, Tierney hopes her next novel, The Rescued Heart, will show the courage and dangers of loving a hard rock miner.
Besides teaching and writing, Tierney enjoys gardening, reading and offering writing workshops. Other pursuits involve learning Hebrew and research, which sometimes has led to becoming certified with various weapons.
There’s never a dull moment in Tierney’s life. And that is just the way she likes it.

Series Spotlight!

Christine James is an amazingly talented author. She recently put out a call asking for bloggers to help her promo her newest book, Final Redemption. It is the final installment in her Chosen Chronicles series.

I jumped at the chance. I read the 1st book in the series, Risen, which I really enjoyed. The reason I haven’t read the 2nd is because I’ve been trying to focus on my own writing. Obviously, since book 3, just released today I haven’t gotten the opportunity read it. Both book 2 and 3 are on my to-be-read list.

On to the spotlight though…

Witness the Beginning…

A single night at the annual town carnival will change Erin’s life forever.  The simple visit to a bizarre and mysterious fortune teller was supposed to be fun and harmless, but turned into something much worse. Scared to death by what the decrepit woman reveals, Erin quickly flees and quite literally collides with Angelo, a mysterious and captivating carnival worker. Later that night, he appears in her dreams but he’s not the only one visiting her slumber. Evil is lurking on the edge of the shadows and it’s coming for her.

Angelo is not what he seems, but then again no one ever is. Not even Erin.

Tragedy strikes, leaving Erin devastated and alone, forcing her with no other option to but to trust Angelo. Loyalties are tested and lines of friendship begin to blur as long hidden truths come to light. Fate begins to bear down upon them all. Everyone has secrets but when some turn out to be more than heart wrenching, Erin has to decide who she can trust.

Can Erin deal with the harsh past that Angelo has been hiding from her or will it prevent her from doing what she’s been chosen to do?

The Chosen Chronicles: Bloodlines

Witness the rise of a new evil.

Lucifer is back in hell and the world is safe. Blaze and Angie have rekindled their relationship. But if Angie is supposed to be happy, why is she so restless?

The playing fields have shifted. As the Chosen race the clock, their battle against evil is about to get much more personal. And the war is only beginning…”

The Chosen Chronicles: Final Redemption

Witness the beginning. . . of the End.

The nephilim couldn’t be more fractured than what they are right now! They’ve lost loved ones and have been betrayed by the people closest to them.  Their friendships have been tested and one by one they have turned on each other. They still need the seventh member to complete the full Chosen circle. Blinded by anger and grief, they are unable to focus on the task at hand.

The ultimate threat has arrived, Lilith, but she is not alone.  With her comes a more sinister force that has ever been seen. The end is finally here.

About the Author:

Christine comes from southern Missouri and is a country girl through and through. In addition to writing, she loves to camp, fish and play in the mud.  As a stay at home mom of two boys, she appreciates the escape a good book can create and she strives to create that for others. She considers her boys her real angels and by becoming an author she wants to show them that their dreams can come true.

Her favorite actor is Johnny Depp, because who’s isn’t and her current television obsession The Walking Dead.

Her husband has been her cheerleader as she strives to achieve her writing goals; he’s helped pick her up and dusted her off when she went through rejections; he laughs with her, and more times than not he laughs AT her.  But more importantly he’s there to lend her a shoulder for her to cry on. He’s her rock but more importantly she considers him her best friend.

The thing Christine loves the most, outside of writing and her family, is making people laugh. People come and go from our lives, influencing and changing us in all kinds of ways.  Sometimes the influences are positive, but then again, some are negative.  If we use the negative as a tool for learning, we could very well change or even save someone’s life down the road.  She strives to be the type of person that touches someone’s life in a positive way, even if it is by writing a book. She believes that if only a quarter of the people in the world would loosen up and smile, it would be a better place.

If she could share one message with the world, it would be that nothing is impossible and you should never stop following your dreams.

Review: Crazy Little Thing Called Love

Ha! Book Review #2 for this blog! Go me!

Any hubblebubble, Evelyn James contacted me over the weekend and asked me to review her short romance story. I was like, ‘Hell yeah! Love romance! Love short stories (because sometimes that is all I have time to read, and really short stories need just as much love as full length novels, right? Right!) *Disclaimer: I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Crazy little thing called love

Crazy Little Thing Called Love is a hysterical, romantic romp with a lot of spunk! Sparks fly when club promoter Marli Johnson’s late night antics bring her furious, but oh-so-good-looking neighbor to her door! Hot Shot, as she calls him, can’t stand her silly attitude and ridiculous shenanigans. That is until Hurricane Elyse hits, forcing Marli into Hot Shot’s living room for shelter. Will either of them survive the next few days? Who will come out alive? And who will come out in love?
The first novella in the Crazy Little Thing series, this hilarious romantic comedy is full of funny moments, romantic sizzle and moving heart-to-hearts scenes. The perfect answer to the chick lit reader who loves a dose of feel-good humor weaved into every sexy love story! Don’t miss this little delight of a romantic comedy!

My Thoughts:

This was a cute, fun, and sweet romance. Marli is a club promoter. Jared is a stock broker. Marli leads more of a wild lifestyle, Jared doesn’t. Both believe they know how the other thinks and lives. Marli’s apartment floods and Jared offers her shelter. The chemistry between them is hot, but both are scared of spark between them.

I loved the way this started. I was giggling up a storm. I really liked Mr. Hot Shot a.k.a. Jared. I was on the fence about Marli. I felt like she needed to grow up a bit more. She came off a bit childish.  There were a few kisses between the two, but that’s as far as the action went. With the kind of sexual energy between the two of them, you’d think they’d be at it all the time.

5 out of 5 stars.

Review: Black Widow Society

I just realized, I don’t think I’ve ever posted a book review to this blog, which was kind of my plan from the beginning. Well, here it is. My first official book review post of this blog! Hope you enjoy.

I don’t get the chance to read much, maybe 10-15 minutes a day, if I’m lucky. Obviously it takes me awhile to get through a book, unless it grabs me by my unmentionables and drags me on a wild, and sometimes, much needed adventure.

About the Author:

CC Brown is the pseudonym adopted by the three authors: Schyrlet Cameron, Carolyn Craig, and Kathy Brown. The women live in the Ozarks with their families. Visit their website at

The sacred relic of the undead . . . the Vampire Bible has fallen into the hands of a paranormal-artifact dealer. An eBay bid and an annual vacation lead Koleen O’Brien and her five friends to San Antonio to deliver the book to a wealthy Texan. They are clueless to the fact that a pack of blood-thirsty vampires are stalking them to reclaim the Bible. Immortals meet their match as they discover that these women aren’t typical mortals; they’re members of the Black Widow Society!

My Thoughts:

I bought this book at a local book fair back in February. The cover art is what drew me in, then I read the back cover and the description made me think it was going to be something right up my alley. I love paranormal and urban fantasy stories.

When I first started reading it, I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to finish it. The point of view flip flopped so much I wasn’t sure which character was saying or doing what. It seemed like all the characters were vying for face time at the same time. I’m not sure if that was intention on the authors part or not. Once I got to know the group of women being written about, it made me wonder if the chaos in the first part of the book was there on purpose. It still made it very difficult to get into the story.

By the middle to the end of the book, the story started to pick up. I had me giggling at some of the antics the Black Widow Society were displaying. I like it when a book can make me laugh out loud.  The Black Widow Society seems like a bunch of fun loving women who know how to get into trouble and how to get out of it…mostly. The Watcher in the book had me intrigued. I wanted to learn much more about him. The baddies in my opinion weren’t bad enough if a bunch of women can kick their centuries old vampire butts. Overall it was a good book. I will definitely be picking up more books by this author.

Rating: 3 1/2-4 stars out of 5.

Ghost Hunters Wanted!

I’m about a week behind on this, but apparently Syfy’s Ghost Hunters TV show is looking to replace three of their cast members.

Amy Bruni, Adam Berry, and Britt Griffith are all bowing out of the show. Why? Who knows. I won’t speculate. It’s none of my business.

Now Pilgrim Studios has posted a casting call looking for a new investigator.

I wouldn’t make a good ghost hunter. Actually this is more of my idea of ghost hunting…

After watching a scary movie, I make my hubby turn out all the lights as I cower under the covers, then snuggle close to him, hoping that if a ghost appears or serial killer breaks in, that he will be able to defend me, or at least keep them busy while I escape…with the kids…of course…

Yep, that about sums up what a chicken I really am.

BUT, my hubby would be an awesome ghost hunter. Here are some of his qualifications…

1. He’s been a correctional officer. He can keep a level head in stressful/unique situations.

2. He’s been in maintenance and HVAC. Something made a noise? More than likely it was a squeaky door, furnace, water heater, vent, window, etc. I’m thinking he would be great at debunking things.

3. He has stuff in common with the TAPS team members. He can talk plumbing with Jason and be scared of spiders with Steve.

4. He’s a good looking guy, a man’s man, prankster, team player…the list could go on and on…

Okay, so he is lacking on the actual ghost hunting side, but he’s a quick learner.

So, if you’re interested in the possibility of becoming a ghost hunter click on the Casting Call link above, better hurry though, the deadline to submit your application is June 13,2014. Then again, you could just let this one slide. The hubster already submitted his application 😉

I’ll leave you with a few fun ghost memes…
